Pentecost Sunday
A lot of churches are celebrating Pentecost Sunday today. What is Pentecost Sunday, you ask. Pentecost Sunday is 50 days after Jesus died on the cross for our sins when he returned to Earth.
We celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus on Easter and celebrate the day that the Holy Spirit fell on the apostles.
In the book of Acts 4:31, “and when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness”.
Acts 1:4, Jesus tells the disciples not to depart from Jerusalem because in a few days they would be baptized with the Holy Spirit.
A little bit before this scripture, Jesus met with them and because of their faith and belief in him he blessed them with the power of the Holy Spirit. The apostles had been with Jesus since the baptizing of John the Baptist. They left their families, friends, jobs just to follow Jesus. Even though sometimes it was hard to believe in His plan, they were right there with him until his death on the cross and really afterwards. Every disciple was not perfect but they persevered and were baptized with the Holy Spirit.
What is the Holy Spirit?
Well the trinity represents God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. God IS… God is everything that you need him to be (I can go on and on about what he is). God is the son of man in human form, and God is an invisible spirit that fills and indwells in us if we believe. The Holy Spirit is our comforter, our guide, it gives us conviction when making decisions.
It’s funny because I had started getting busy at work with learning new job criteria that I didn’t have time to keep reading and studying my Bible like I had been doing. Earlier this week I had a little free time and kept getting a nudge to pull out my notebook and go over my notes. My notes kept pointing me to the Holy Spirit not knowing Pentecost Sunday was this Sunday.
