When Your Baby Isnt A Baby Anymore

My son is becoming a young man. He’s 13.

As he gets older, I realize more and more how important it is to pray over him. He’s being exposed to different things – different environments, different influences, different friend groups.

And the truth is..everyone that says they’re your friend isn’t really your friend.

Kids don’t always understand that. They don’t always listen either – especially when it’s coming from a parent. But if I’m being honest, I was the same way once.

I snuck and got a boyfriend in 6th grade but that only last a week. Then I had a boyfriend from 7th grade until college. My mom never knew until 11th grade.

Even though I was being “fast” as they called it, I wasn’t slow. But my mom wasn’t slow either – she picked up on things. Because parents know their kids.

It’s okay to be a young person who is different. While everyone is trying to fit in or play a role, there is something special about standing out. People will notice that difference – and they’ll be drawn to it.

As a mother, my prayer is simple but deep:

God, watch over my son.

Protect him when I’m not around.

Touch his mind so that the decisions he makes and the words he speaks are wise

Keep him out of harm’s way – but also give him the strength and sense to walk away from anything that does not benefit him

I am the parent, and God trusted me with raising my children – and I don’t take that lightly.

While I believe our ultimate goal is to win souls for Christ, I also know this:

My first ministry is my children.
